Anointing of the Sick

The Catholic sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is a ritual of healing appropriate not only for physical but also for mental and spiritual sickness.

Anointing of the sick can be traced back to  ancient times. The sacrament is especially intended for those with illness or old age. A person who is preparing for surgery may be asked to be anointed.  The sacrament is for the sick and not only for those at the point of death.  Anyone wishing to be anointed may call the church office to speak with a priest. (CCC 1511-151523)

The first Tuesday of every  month, St. Richard Church has a Mass of Anointing for those impaired by sickness or old age. The Mass is at 11 a.m. in Foley Hall. After the Mass a lunch is served.
