Natural Family Planning

“A child does not come from outside as something added on to the mutual love of the spouses, but springs from the very heart of that mutual giving, as its fruit and fulfillment.  So the Church, which is ‘on the side of life’ teaches that ‘it is necessary that each and every marriage act remain ordered per se to the procreation of human life.”  cc 2366

This passage underlines the Church’s teaching that God established an inseparable bond between the unitive and procreative aspects of marriage.  Every act of married love needs to be open to the possibility of conceiving a child.  Thus, artificial contraception is contrary to God’s will for marriage because it separates the act of conception from the marital union.

Natural Family Planning is a morally permissible system for the regulation of births, which employs the natural fertility patterns and can be used within certain conditions of marriage and family life.  The method of Natural Family Planning offered here at St. Richard is the Billings Ovulation Method.
